Beshert I am a single Mother, writer and rabbi. I work in the medical center as a chaplain and for better or worse; I am neither the typical single mother, "medical passions" subscriber or rabbi. I say this up front because people frequently make innocent but incorrect assumptions about all of the above. I am pretty sure I am not what most people expect so just listing the facts about what I do may be misleading and at the very least an incomplete picture of who I am. As a single Mom I am not as overwhelmed as most single Moms. My ex and I have a freakishly good divorce and we give each other whatever time we need to pursue professional or personal goals while spending as much time individually with our kids as possible. He is financially supportive and we simply make up the schedule as we go. I guess the kids are mostly with me but it just depends on the semester. Overall I have more freedom to focus on endeavors outside of parenting while still being able to put my kids first. Divorce blows, plain and simple but I am actually proud of how we have handled it visa vie our kids. I think I need to be with someone who genuinely likes kids & who understands that they are a priority but he need not have them. With the right guy, in a really solid relationship and with someone who is open to adoption and other ways of having a child.
As a rabbi I am definitively atypical. I do not go to synagogue regularly or keep kosher. I have also been known to use profanity here and there and also kind of have a tendency to swear. I am more liberal on all matters than most of my community but I have a long and strong relationship with colleagues and have found a good niche here. I guess it would be ideal to find a Jewish man but open minded, liberal, curios and good natured works in any religion. Even no interest or skeptical is fine because let's face it, skeptical about religion pretty much describes anyone in my demographic.
